A collaboration between Yves De Brabander and Cedric Jacquemyn —for his "Geworfenheit" collection.

"Geworfenheit," translating to "thrownness" in German and stands as the conceptual cornerstone of this evocative series. This philosophical notion by Heidegger encapsulates the essence of the human experience, describing the inherent condition of being thrown into the world without control over one's circumstances. In the context of "Shadows of Liberty," the duo questions and contemplates the European refugee crisis.

This photographic study captures movements emerging from the shadows, meticulously masked with layers of waterpaint, translating the slow oxidation process of bronze sculptures in public areas and parcs. The sculptures, veiled with layers of water paint, serve as metaphors for the individuals tossed into the complexities of societal and political upheaval, frozen in their eternal struggle against the shadows of liberty.

As movements freeze into eternity, "Shadows of Liberty" becomes a poignant commentary on the transient nature of freedom and the socio-political challenges faced during the refugee crisis.

The hand-painted touch by Cedric Jacquemyn brings an additional layer of depth, a tactile testament to the collaboration's artistic synergy. An invitation to contemplate the ephemeral nature of liberty, the veiling of movements, and the intrinsicconnection between art and societal narratives.
